The motoring public on Friday commended the police for executing a strategy that prevented traffic congestion during the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Summit in Accra.
The police took control of streets leading to the venue of the summit and stationed personnel at traffic intersections and junctions to ensure free flow of vehicular traffic. Some motorists told the GNA that there were slight build ups in the evenings to make way for the Heads of States and other dignitaries attending the summit.
Mr Wisdom Tetteh, a driver of a commercial mini-van, said the ECOWAS Summit had not had any negative impact on his business. “We have not spent too much time on the road because of the Police. The only problem is that we are not able to stop to pick passengers because the police are everywhere,” he said.
Mr Emmanuel Bantey, a private car driver, told GNA that the Police deserved commendation and that their presence had checked indiscipline by commercial drivers. “The Police have done really well, commercial drivers cannot stop to pick passengers as they always do,” he said.
