U/E Region students to storm Flagstaff Hse over reshuffle

Tertiary students in the Upper East Region have scheduled a procession to the seat of government, the Flagstaff House, on Monday, July 14 to register their displeasure at the removal of Dr Ephraim Avea Nsoh from the ministerial position of the Region.

TV3 gathers some chiefs in the Region have also hinted at joining the students to the Flagstaff House next Monday to make known their misgivings about President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to reassign Dr Nsoh.

At a press conference on Wednesday, July 9 in Bolgatanga, Ibrahim Abdulai, the Spokesperson of the Concerned Tertiary Students, hinted that his members have also planned to demonstrate against the new minister upon his arrival in the Region.

In his recent ministerial reshuffle, President Mahama appointed Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, James Zuugah Tiigah, as Upper East Region Minister-designate, a decision that seems to have created an uproar in the Region.

The students have also threatened to campaign against President Mahama in 2016 if he does not accede to their demands.

According to them, the Senior Lecturer of the University of Education, Winneba has done tremendously well to be ousted from office.

This follows a threat issued by youth of the Region last month against the president’s decision though “leading members” of the Region moved in quickly to calm nerves.

TV3 gathers a rival student group is also planning to host a press conference to declare support for President Mahama’s decision.
