Security man in trouble over illegal gun possession

A security man has found himself in trouble with the law after he shot a colleague with an unauthorized weapon. Yaw Boakye has already appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court charged with illegal possession of a firearm.

His plea was not taken and he was remanded into prison custody to make his next appearance on Wednesday, July 9. Police Inspector Gulliver Kwabena Tenkorang, told the court presided over by Mr William Boampong that the incident happened on June 24, at about 2230 hours.

The accused person and the victim, Daniel Ayim, are both security men working with the Kumasi-Atimatim branch of the Juaben Rural Bank. Boakye had reported to duty on that day armed with a pump action gun, and later spotted Ayim at the bank’s premises, questioned him on his mission and ordered him to leave the place.

The victim ignored his order, prompting the shooting. The prosecution said with the help of some sympathizers, Ayim was rushed to hospital for treatment.

A formal report was subsequently made to the Police and Boakye was arrested. In his caution statement, he claimed the gun accidentally dropped and went-off, hitting Ayim in the process.
