Police Stray Bullet Kills Teenage Girl

A stray bullet fired by a police patrol team has killed a teenage girl at Osu. Nineteen year-old Brenda Oteng died on the spot after the bullet hit her on the forehead. Two other teenagers who were with the deceased survived.

The patrol team was reportedly chasing an armed robber who was fleeing in his car. The robber was also killed in the shooting. Brenda?s cousin who escaped unharmed told JOY News that she was sitting on a bench with a friend when Brenda came there.

Just when she was about to sit down, they heard gunshots. Their attention was drawn to the direction of the noise. Brenda suddenly fell onto the bench. She tried calling her but she did not respond. It was then that she realised that a stray bullet had hit Brenda.

The family members are blaming the police officers for firing in the wrong direction. They also allege the patrol vehicle speed off after hitting the girl.

Following the incident an angry mob stormed the Osu police station to protest last night. Others burnt tyres on the road leading to the Osu market traffic light.

The Osu District Police Commander Samuel Obeng Kyere has since visited the residence of the deceased and invited the family to assist the regional command in its investigations into incident.
