50-year-old man granted bail for molesting a child

The Winneba District Magistrate Court has granted bail of 1,000.00 Ghana Cedis with one surety to a 50-year-old drinking bar operator who did not protect a child from torture and degrading treatment at Gomoa Panfokrom in the Central Region.

Solomon Kwabena, who is also a farmer, pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on July 17. Police Detective Sergeant Peter Agbelie said the complainant, aged 17 years, was an apprentice at Gomoa Panfokrom.

The prosecution said on May 21 the complainant took a polythene bag and rushed to an uncompleted building near Solomon Kwabena’s drinking bar and eased himself in it. Detective Sgt. Agbelie said the accused person chanced on him and subjected him to beatings and forced him to throw the polythene bag away.

The prosecution said on May 23 the accused Kwabena visited the uncompleted building and found some of the feces on the ground, went to the complainant and marched him to the scene and again beat him and forced him to chew the feces on the ground.

Detective Sgt. Agbelie said the complainant reported the matter to DOVVSU Unit in Winneba and the accused person was arrested and charged with offence.
