NPP losing ideologies and philosophies – Party guru

Mr Alfred Ofori Annye, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Thursday expressed worry that the party was losing its ideologies and philosophies.

He noted with regret that the foundation of the NPP, which is based on unity, was being taken over by unnecessary insults, innuendos and casting of aspersions.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani, Mr. Annye said the NPP continued to remain as liberal democrats and party members and supporters ought to be guided by its principles and ideals.

“We have believed in democracy and have built upon it as a party so let us not to be very fanatical in addressing our own internal problems,” he said.

Mr Annye said, “liberalism, which is the hallmark of our party, is the pillar on which we stand – rule of law, free market economy, liberal democracy, individual freedom, free speech, freedom of association, promotion of pluralism and media diversity.”

He said party members should move from leveling allegations and counter-allegations and that “Ghanaians are becoming increasingly angry and fed up with us as a party because of unguided statements from many of our members”.

Mr Annye said the bickering and pettiness would not augur well for the NPP if the party is bent to winning power in 2016 and that the only way the party could enhance its fortunes in 2016 was to sensitize voters on the party’s ideologies and philosophies.

He said many Ghanaians were yearning to see the party regain power and “they would not forgive the NPP if we fail to rescue Ghana out of this ramshackle and backward forwarding situation in which we find ourselves”.

“Let’s show the difference and not plunge the party into fascism,” Mr Annye stated.
