Health administrator laments over non-payment of insurance claims

Mr Asare Addo, Administrator of the Agona Duakwa Salvation Army Health Centre, has expressed concern over the delay to pay claims for over six months by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

He said the situation has, therefore, made it extremely difficult for the facility to operate effectively.

He made this known to the Press when students and tutors of the Nsaba Presbyterian Senior High School undertook a four-hour clean-up exercise at the facility at Agona Duakwa in the Agona East District.

The exercise formed part of activities marking the week-long celebration of Guidance and Counseling Unit of the Central Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service.

He said the Agona Duakwa health centre is a missionary and purely private health facility, and it does not receive grant or subvention from government as public health Centers enjoy.

The Administrator hinted that 95 of patients who come to Agona Duakwa health centre to receive treatment are Health Insurance card holders.

The Health, therefore, has no other source to generate fund to operate.

Mr Asare Addo appealed to government and the NHIA, to pay the claims promptly to health facilities which had submitted their claims, especially, private ones.

He commended the students and tutors for their communal spirit and asked others to emulate the good example.

Mrs Dorothy Andam, Head of Home Economics of the Nsaba SHS, said the celebration of guidance and Counseling will help to revive the unit which had become dormant for some time now.

She appealed to the Ghana Education Service to create permanent offices in schools, to facilitate the effective counseling of students.

The students led by Mr Ebenezer Twumasi, a tutor, swept the Maternity Ward, OPD, Administrative block and the compound.
