A six-year-old pupil of Christ the King R/C Primary School at Ahensan, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, left his teachers laughing their heads off when he told them he wanted to become the president of the Republic, like John Mahama.
The boy was answering a question posed to him by his teacher, Napoleon Druofenu, as to what his dream profession was.
Uncharacteristic of the hyperactive child, the boy vented his answer and indicated that he desired to become as powerful as the President, to the amazement of everybody present – even though it served as a comic relief.
When asked why, the six-year-old explained that he was worried about the frequent power outages in the country, which he indicated, had affected his studies at home.
For him, it takes a man with great power and authority like President John Mahama to interrupt in the supply of power to the nation.
The boy’s sentiment appears to be the mirror of the larger society as many Ghanaians continue to bemoan the current unannounced load shedding exercise by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
In March this year, President Mahama told the nation that power generation and supply had reduced by 270 megawatts due to the shutdown of the Asogli Power Plant and the Mines Reserve Plant.
This, he intimated, had led to an emergency load management, as consumers of electricity were compelled to sleep in darkness without prior notice by the ECG.
The company again attributed the situation to a reduction in the supply of gas from Nigeria to power the Aboadze thermal plant at Takoradi to complement power generated from the Akosombo hydro-electric plant.
