Public toilets not government priority – DCE

Mr. Alhassan Mohammed Sorogudoo, Sagnarigu District Chief Executive (DCE), has maintained that the construction of public toilets would not be a priority for government.

He has, therefore, advised land developers to include toilets in their plans.

He explained that because government is building public toilets, some house owners are converting their toilets into sleeping places while others deliberately refuse to include toilets in their housing plans.

Mr. Sorogudoo said this on Thursday when he handed over a 20-seater aqua privy toilet for Tamale Senior High School at the cost of GHc81,000, and a similar facility to the people of Katariga Community at the cost of GHc105,000.

He said if District Assemblies could stop building toilets and rather implement bye-laws that make it mandatory for people to include the facility in their housing plans, the situation would improve.

Mr. Sorogudoo said the assembly would ensure that water is extended to all parts of the district while link roads would also be constructed to facilitate business to enhance the living conditions of the people.

He appealed to chiefs and other land owners to stop the habit of selling state lands to developers and warned those who build on such lands that their properties would be demolished without compensation.

Katariga Na, Memunatu Issah, chief of Katariga, commended government for the number of development projects in the community and appealed for the extension of potable water to the area.
