The Ghana Police Service has expressed its determination to ensure adequate security during the Easter holidays.
Within the week, the Service embarked upon a clamp-down exercise on motorcycles in Accra ahead of the holidays.
In an interview on TV3 on Thursday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cephas Arthur revealed that the visibility of personnel of the Service will be “heavily” deployed into every nook and cranny of the country.
The head of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Service further stated that special officers will be deployed to provide security at the country’s beaches during the holidays.
“Specifically for the beaches, we have the marine police taking over security,” he said.
“We want to ward off criminals. We are not leaving any space for the criminals to exploit.”
He also announced that officers of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) will also be on the ground to direct traffic.
“They have a three-prong programme,” he said of the MTTD. “The first one is managing traffic at all areas where there will be crowd.”
DSP Arthur said plain-clothed personnel will also be on alert to pick “pieces of intelligence”.
