Power crisis: Ghanaians to suffer fresh bout of darkness

The Ministry of Energy will publish a timetable for a fresh bout of load management programme due to a shortfall in power supply.

The Ministry told Journalists at a news conference on Friday that the country’s current peak time demand is 1,985 Megawatts but able to supply only 1,650 Megawatts.

There’s almost a 400 Megawatts shortfall in supply. According to the Ministry, the shortfall can be put down to a shortfall in supply of gas from Nigeria.

Issues concerning expansion works on some thermal plants in the country have also conspired to create the power crisis.

Power Producer Volta River Authority has however given assurance to Ghanaians that the crisis will be over by the end of March.
