Missing baby saga: Doctor, Nurse asked to proceed on leave

The Health Ministry has directed the doctor and nurse under whose watch the still-born baby at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital in Kumasi went missing to proceed on leave.

The Ministry has also referred the Doctor and the Nurse to the appropriate bodies for further investigations.

In addition, the Ministry has given a 14-day ultimatum to the management of the hospital to produce the bodies of five other babies who were declared dead at the hospital.

Police in the Ashanti region have already charged seven people for stealing and conspiracy to steal in connection with the missing baby at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

A docket on these persons has been forwarded to the AG’s department for possible prosecution.

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital insists the baby was born dead, but Suwaiba Abdul Mumin, mother of the baby is yet to see the body of her baby several weeks after delivery.

Health Minister Ms. Sherry Ayittey at a Press Briefing Thursday also revealed that her ministry will do everything possible to ensure that the truth is unravelled.

She assured the family of the missing baby that anyone found culpable will be severely punished.
