PAWA eulogizes Nelson Mandela

The Pan African Writers’ Association had expressed its admiration at the qualities that inspired, strengthened and sustained the spirit of Nelson Mandela in the long-running struggle to secure t liberation for the people of South Africa.

The association said the former South African President was committed to the cause of social justice, racial equality and basic human rights, and a sincere heart to forgive his transgressors, and has distinguished himself as a unique and modest leader.

The Association’s admiration of the late Mandela is contained in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Professor Atukwei Okai, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

The Association, the statement said, wishes to pay a tribute to the role played by writers in conscientizing people around the world, to the horrific tragedies forced upon our people and the heroic struggles waged by South Africans under Mandela to secure a free South Africa.

“Madiba’s passing calls for a sober reflection on the fact that a man having made so inspiring a contribution, leaves behind a legacy that would challenge future generation,” the statement noted.

The Association hails all progressive forces of the world that came together in solidarity to help the South African people to achieve their long-sought and hard-won liberation.
