Okyenhene Celebrated in Worcester With A Big Durbar

History was made on Saturday Oct. 26th as Worcester celebrated the Okyenhene with a big durbar. His Royal Majesty;Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the king of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area in Ghana and the Chancellor of the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies.

His Majesty was the special guest of honor at this power packed event which occurred at the Renaissance Hall, 1040 Southbridge street, Worcester, MA, USA. He was accompanied by his wife, and the following members of his entourage : Kwame Ofori Yentumi -Chief of Staff, Kwame Boateng – Okyeman Council Lawyer. Daasebre Boamah Darko II – Adontenhene, Barima Pobi Asomani – Aworasahene Osabarima Kofi Boateng – Akwatiahene, Osabarima Obenakwa Kwarifa – Apedwahenene, Nana Kofi Twinin – Dwantoa, Anim Essah – Okyeame, Angela Dadson – Secretary

Among the high profile guests in attendance were: Ex-Lieutenant Governor of Commonwealth of Massachusetts; His Excellency Timothy Murray, State Representative; Hon. Daniel M.Donahue, Mayor of the City of Worcester; Honorable. Joseph M. Petty, Gladys Rodriquez Parker from the Office of US Congressman; Jim McGovern, Richard Rafferty; Attorney At Law, Mr. Gabby Otchere-Darko of Danquah Institute, Mrs. Yaa Larbi, Chairperson of North America Okyeman Association , Rev. Kwaku Boakye Boateng Agyeman of Rehman International Church and NAANAMOO

There were few remarks made by the Lt. Gov. Murray, Mayor Petty and Attorney Rafferty and they offered their gratitude to the community. They appreciated the enormous support offered by the huge Ghanaian community in helping the state of Massachusetts and city of Worcester. They were also appreciative of the support offered them during the elections.

His Majesty in his remarks called on Ghanaians in the Diaspora to offer their support in building Ghana and Okyeman in general through their various professions and business interest.

The Chairman of the New England Association, Mr. Twumasi Ankrah remarked some achievements of the group. Among them were supporting the Osenase Orphanage, coordinating educational aids from Yale University to the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies. The group also made computer donations to the Dwenase ICT lab and other towns within Okyeman. The Association has also organized workshops on immigration, credit repair, educational funding health and Life Insurance for the African community in New England. He also introduced the executive members of the Association.

Two awards were presented to the His Majesty by the North America Okyeman Association and Okyeman Association of New England. The Awards were presented by Mrs Yaa Larbi, Chairperson of North America Okyeman Association and Hon. Ken Asafo-Adjei, New England Okyeman Association respectively.

The event was sponsored by the Okyeman Association of New England.
