NPP Honours Staunch Members

THE WESTERN Region branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) last Sunday honoured 52 of its staunch members from the 19 constituencies in the region at a ceremony at Takoradi.

They were presented with television sets, radio cassette players, parcels and certificates for their loyalty, commitment, courage and honesty, resulting in victory for the party in the last general elections.

Ministers of state, parliamentarians, district chief executives, some leading members of the party and other party functionaries were present at the well-attended ceremony.

Mr. Dan Botwe, general secretary of the party, told the supporters that they should not be complacent but continue to work hard to preserve the power won in the 2000 elections and commended the regional party executives for their vision.

He said the results of the bye-elections in Bimbila and Kumawu, which the party won convincingly, are clear indications that the electorate are keeping faith with the NPP.

Mr. Botwe said the party would not divert from its tradition to build a firm foundation for true democracy to uphold freedom and dignity of the people.

“We must be proud to inherit an ideology that has stood the test of time,” he told the cheering supporters, adding, “we must continue to fight for the full realisation of the laudable objectives of the founding fathers of our party.”

Papa Owusu Ankomah, Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, advised supporters to avoid bickering and tendencies that tended to breed disunity because that would enable their opponents to infiltrate their ranks to sow seeds of discord.

He said the party would fulfil its promises to improve the standard of living of the people and urged them to continue to be loyal to the party.

Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, assured the people that roads in the region would be made motorable as from next year and asked them to be patient.

Mrs. Gladys Asmah, Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs and MP for Takoradi, who chaired the function told the people that they have the responsibility to support programmes of the government to enable it to deliver.
