British Council will be hosting a group of twenty primary school teachers from Suffolk and South Glouchestershire, UK, on a short-term study visit to Ghana, from 19 to 25 October 2002. This visit, which follows two other successful ones to Ghana earlier in the year, comes under the Teachers International Professional Development Programme (TIPD).
A press release from British Council said TIPD aims to provide teachers in the United Kingdom with opportunities for international study visits or exchanges. The programme enhances international understanding and gives teachers first hand experience of other educational systems, allowing them to acquire an understanding of world class standards and the methods by which they are achieved.
The teachers will meet with officials from the Metropolitan Education Directorate of GES in the Central and Ashanti regions and visit schools in these two regions. They will discuss how teaching and learning will improve creativity within the curriculum, raise attainment levels and whole school performance. Their visit will enhance their understanding of cultural diversity with reference to the social, moral and spiritual aspects and thereby evaluate their own preconceptions from a broader and more objective context.
