Kumasi: Floods trapped many residents in Aberkumadi

Residents of Aberkumadi in the Ashanti region have been cut off from the capital Kumasi due to flooding there.

About 20 homes have been submerged and some residents are rescuing their neighbours who have been trapped in their homes.

School children are unable to go to school because the roads are not motorable.

LUVFM’s Erastus Asare Donkor who visited the area reports that as at Wednesday noon, some residents were still trapped in their homes.

Residents suspect the flood was caused by huge uncollected garbage at Abuakwa and a building both situated in the waterways.

Many people have lost their personal belongings to the flood. A man recounted how a kenkey seller had her food and other items she had prepared for sale swept away by the flood.

Meanwhile, authorities in the area are working to ensure that the area is properly drenched to forestall future occurrence.
