Duncan-Williams: Akufo-Addo will go down in history as a true statesman

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams has described main opposition Flagbearer in the 2012 elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo “a true statesman”.

He told a thanksgiving service at the Christian Action Faith Ministries’ headquarters in Accra on Sunday, which was attended by President John Mahama and the first Lady, that Nana Akufo-Addo’s immediate “graceful” concession after the Supreme Court, on Thursday August 29, 2013, affirmed the presidential electoral victory of Mr. Mahama as “valid”, clearly showed that Akufo-Addo was a “statesman”.

Duncan-Williams said the former Attorney General “will go down in history as a true statesman of this country”.

The CAFM Presiding Archbishop said: “We thank God for Hon. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the courage and humility he demonstrated in accepting the verdict”.

On the same Sunday, another Christian leader, Prophet T.B. Joshua of Nigeria, said: “I salute Nana Akufo-Addo…I salute that man” for accepting the verdict of Ghana’s apex Court.

Prophet Joshua was preaching at the headquarters of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) when he showered praises of Nana Akufo-Addo.

He said Africa will be a better place if there were leaders of Akufo-Addo’s ilk.

Nana Akufo-Addo conceded minutes after the apex Court’s verdict by calling first calling President Mahama on the phone and congratulating him.

He later delivered a public speech to that effect. According to Nana Akufo-Addo, even though he disagreed with the verdict, he would accept it and not file for a review.

He has since received plaudits from the National Peace Council and the Christian Council as well as other civil society organisations for his show of political maturity.
