German Couple Donate 40 Million Cedis Worth Of Items To Orphanage At Offinso

Offinso (Ash), Aug 26, – Two German philanthropists, Mr and Mrs Micheal Bettina Harmmerl, on Monday donated large quantities of clothings, shoes, dolls, bicycles and learning materials worth 40 million cedis and 1,000 Deutsche marks to the Offin Children’s Centre at Offinso. Mr Harmmerl pledged to look for foreign sponsors to establish a vocational and technical institute to enable the inmates to acquire skills for decent living in the future. Mrs Mary Osei Tutu, executive director of the centre, explained the aims and objectives of this non-governmental organization established with 15 children a year ago. She said plans are well advanced to put up 10 five-bedroom houses and a community complex comprising a gymnasium, library, first aid centre and games room. She thanked the couple and other donors in the United States for their financial and material support. Mr J.K.Asafo-Akowah, Ashanti regional director of Social Welfare, who presided, called on the management to provide the inmates with quality academic and moral education to enable them to contribute positively towards the country’s development.
