Press release from the ghana environmental journalists association

on world environmental day, june 5, 2013

Today is being commemorated as World Environment Day. As Ghana joins the rest of the world in the day celebration, we want to remind government of the need to implement policies that will secure the environment which ultimately sustained food production. The Ghana Environmental Journalists Association is warning of serious consequences if care is not taken to secure the environment considering the damage “Galamsey” activities are posing to the country environment. This year’s theme for the celebration is “Think-Eat-Save: Reduce Your Foodprint”. It is to draw the attention of the global public to food security, supply and conservation. Already there are reports of some parts of Northern Ghana being food insured. The Association deems as dangerous this emerging picture and calls for holistic approach from government and other stakeholders.
