NGO provides safe water for Akateng

Safe Water Network, an International non-governmental organisation (NGO), has constructed a modular slow sand filtration system, which is a water purification facility, for the people of Akateng in the Upper Manya Krobo District.

The 85,000 dollars project which was funded by Safe Water Network in partnership with Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, USAID and CSR Development, was jointly inaugurated by Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister and Mr Charles Nimako, Director of the NGO.

Mr Nimako said the NGO is going to construct 45 of the facility in the country.

Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, District Chief Executive, said people will forever be grateful to the NGO for providing them with the facility which would, “no doubt ensure tremendous improvement in the health of the people of Akateng and the nearby communities”.

Mr Angmor said governments over the past four years initiated and completed several projects in the district, including the construction of the Asesewa to Akateng road, which used to be one of the worst roads in the country.

“Its completion has without doubt greatly boosted economic activities within this area,” he said.

Ms Ama Frimpong appealed to the network to replicate the facility in the mining communities in the region.

She called for more partners to implement Public, Private Partnership projects, to ensure the fast development of the country.
