Have Technical student died in police cell

Student Lawrence Adiase died in a cell at Kpando police station and not on his way to the hospital as claimed by the police, according to a report by the Daily Guide.

Cell mates and peers of the 19-year-old student told his father, Divine Atutukpa Adiase, that his son complained of heartburn and drowsiness which they reported to police officers but they were ignored and shortly after the student passed away with his head on his friend’s lap. It is claimed that instead of the police helping the student someone told them “you can die” when they shouted to the police “someone is collapsing… someone is dying…”.

When they realised Lawrence was not moving, they continuously shouted “someone is dead” until the police rushed in but it was too late. The incident is reported to have happened in the early hours of Monday March 18 2013.

The students told their story to Lawrence’s father and uncle, Benjamin Adiase, and the headmaster of Have Technical Institute, where Lawrence attended.

Lawrence was said to have been mistaken for a student from KPANTECH school which the police were investigating because of a camera which was reportedly stolen from Awudome Senior High School by KPANTECH students.
