NHIA top post not for failed parliamentary candidates – Dr. Nsiah-Asare

A former Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare has called on government to desist from appointing party loyalists and failed parliamentary candidates as heads of government institutions.

According to Dr. Nsiah-Asare, party loyalists who are often appointed to head institutions, do not make any positive impact, citing the National Health Insurance Authority.

Dr Nsiah Asare was speaking Monday on Badwam on Adom TV, in reaction to the withdrawal of services to National Health Insurance Scheme card bearers, by missionary hospitals in the country.

The Christian Health Association of Ghana claimed the NHIA owed its members over Gh¢50 million as at January 31, 2013.

The former KATH Boss stated that government hospitals were facing similar problems but their managers were unable to publicly state their frustrations for fear of being victimized.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare called on government to quickly fix the problem so that cardholders can access healthcare facilities.

Meanwhile, Communications Consultant to the NHIA, Eric Ametor-Quarmyne says the Authority has begun disbursing funds to facilities in the Bono-Ahafo, Ashanti, Upper East and Greater Accra Regions, to cover claims submitted between September-October, 2012.

He however said claims from January to date this year, will be paid at the end of March.
