Back corruption fight with action – GII tells Mahama

The Ghana Integrity Initiative has backed President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to strengthen the anti-corruption agencies in the country and sanction culpable persons to serve as a deterrent to others.

The President’s decision which was announced in parliament on Thursday during his State of the Nation address , forms part of his effort to fight corruption.

Vitus Azeem, executive director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative believes the President has good intentions about tackling corruption, but wants him to put those words into action.

“These are just assurances, we would now need to monitor and see if that would turn into actions,” Mr. Azeem said

“Words are always words with politicians but then when you act on those words, then we can say that this is the right move.

Mr. Azeem also hit hard at the minority in Parliament for the continuous boycott of Parliamentary business that relates to the President.

He said the MPs must get serious and stop boycotting activities.
