Mechanic in court for fraud

Prince Amankwaa, a Mechanic, has appeared before a Fiapre Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding three friends of about GHC6, 700 under the pretext of acquiring Swedish visas for them.

He pleaded not guilty and was granted GHC7,000 bail to re-appear on February 27.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mawunyo Nanegbe, told the court presided over by Mr Benjamin Owusu that, the complainant is a businessman in Sunyani while the accused resides in Accra.

He said in January, the accused met the complainant in Sunyani and during interaction he informed him that he could get him a visa to travel to Sweden.

The prosecutor said the complainant became interested and informed two other people Kyeremeh Minta and Kojo Yeboah, who also expressed interest.

He said the accused charged them GH¢6,500 each but succeeded in collecting GHC6, 700 from them as part payment.

ASP Nanegbe said the accused later brought two visas to the complainant but when it was cross-checked they noticed that they were fakes.

He said the complainant reported the matter to the police and the accused was apprehended in Accra and brought to Sunyani and after investigations, he was charged with the offence.
