Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region are giving different accounts on the performance of Oppong Kyekyeku, District Chief Executive (DCE) of the assembly over the last four years.
Party members and sympathizers, who think the DCE worked hard to bring development to the area, are calling for his retention in office while others, who hold contrary views, are asking for his removal from office without delay.
Some unnamed persons in the locality, who want President Mahama to show Oppong Kyekyeku the exit, have accused him of being a traitor and failing to support part activities and rallies.
Meanwhile, a pro-Oppong Kyekyeku group calling itself as Concerned Youth and People of Afigya Kwabre North and south has denied allegations made against the DCE.
A press statement signed by Lydia Ampofo, Public Relations Officer of the group and issued to the media described the accusers as selfish and lacking a sense of patriotism.
According to them, the group calling for the removal of the DCE prefers that he abandons all projects being executed in the district and rather share the money among themselves.
“This group does not have the party and country at heart but care only about themselves,” the statement said.
According to the statement, in spite of the challenges facing the assembly, Oppong Kyekyeku had implemented a number of programmes and executed projects and made education, health, road construction, potable water and sanitation his priority.
The group said the DCE worked hard to construct various units of classroom blocks, roads and boreholes, built latrines, and addressed the needs of health workers in the district.
The concerned youth of the area therefore appealed to President Mahama, the National Chairman of the NDC, Regional Chairman and other executives of the party to help retain Oppong Kyekyeku in office to continue with his good work.
