Build campuses in Ghana – Ayariga urges UK universities

Minister for Information and Media Relations, Mahama Ayariga, has appealed to universities in the United Kingdom to take advantage of Ghana’s peaceful environment and establish campuses across the country, to help improve the country’s academic standards.

According to the minister, the move could drastically cut down the huge expenditure of students who travel to abroad for further studies.

He said this when the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Peter Jones, paid a curtsey call on him in Accra on Friday.

“Government would continue to invest in the educational sector, government would continue to provide the needed assistance in training and building the capacity of media practitioners to meet the changing trend in journalism while championing and safeguarding the country’s enviable democratic credentials in Africa,” he assured.

He said his outfit would provide media practitioners with credible information regarding national policies and programmes, to enable media outlets channel the right information to the public.

For his part, Mr. Jones disclosed that some UK universities will partner Ghana’s exhibition and recruitment seminar slated, which is expected to come off later in the year.

He added: “As a matter of record the number of Ghanaian students in the UK universities continues to excel in their chosen fields of study. I’m very proud of the tremendous achievements and believe the growing number of Ghanaian students in the UK would positively contribute to the nation’s development.”
