Justice Ministry resolute- AG designate

The Minister-designate for Attorney General and Ministry for Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong, has opined that it will be unfair to accuse the Ministry of always losing cases.

According to her, most of the cases that the Ministry wins are not of public interest and so the public do not get to know.

The Minister-designate on Thursday appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament to be vetted.

Her comments was in response to a question from a member of the committee, asking her to explain why the Attorney General’s department and the Ministry of Justice had never won any case put before it.

She told members of the Committee that when given the nod, she will review all the files to find out what went wrong and ensure that it will not be repeated.

“I agree that it is of concern that certain high profile cases have been lost and it will be dealt with if the committee gives me its approval.

“On the other hand, it will be a little unfair to say that ministry of justice is always losing cases because what the public don’t know is that the Ministry of Justice handles thousand of cases on a daily basis and I think that sometimes within the constraints that they are working, they should be commended because they deal with a lot of cases which are not of public interest but which nobody hears about…I also want you to encourage the state attorney at the ministry of justice for some of the good work they are doing there as well…” she said.
