Akatsi South by-election underway

Polls have been opened for voters in the Akatsi South Constituency of the Volta region, to elect a member of parliament to represent them.

The seat became vacant following the elevation of the incumbent, Edward Doe Adjaho to the position of Speaker of Parliament.

The NDC’s Bernard Ahiafor, the Progressive People Party’s Anthony Tsikata and Evans Gadeto an independent candidate, are competing for the slot.

The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) boycotted the election. According to the NPP, the decision to pull out of the by-election concerns the nature of their petition challenging the results of the 2012 presidential elections.

The Akatsi District Electoral Officer, Francis Denu told Joy News all was set for the by-election and assured of a smooth process until after 5pm when the winner will be declared.
