Even before the next batch of appointments are made; a group calling itself the untouchable group have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to maintain the National security coordinator Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey (rtd) and the deputy minister for Interior Mr. Kobby Acheampong.
The group said the call to maintain the National Security Coordinator and deputy minister for Interior was due to their ability and high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their duties in guaranteeing the sustenance of the country’s peace and security.
The Untouchable group of Nima said the duo have been able to manage the conflicts that reared its ugly head in various parts of the country including, the Yendi conflict, the Bawku conflict, the Gbi traditional councils and the Zongo conflicts, comprising various land and chieftaincy disputes.
In a press statement issued and signed by the president of the group Issaka Amoani themed: sustaining peace in Ghana; the role of the National security Coordinator, ministry of interior and the security agencies stated that ‘’with the new and emerging acts of terrorism being experienced in Nigeria, Mali, Kenya, Somalia, Algeria amongst others calls for experienced and professional personalities such as Mr. Gbevlo Lartey and Kobby Acheampong.’’
According to the group the past four years have seen the security agencies had performed their constitutionally mandated responsibility of jealously safeguarding the peace and National cohesion in the country.
Issaka Amoani said ‘’in the interest of National Security and peace the group humbly urges President John Dramani Mahama to maintain Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey (rtd) as the National Security Coordinator and Hon. Kobby Acheampong as the Deputy Interior Minister.
As we advance in our National development, peace must be a pre-requisite for any development as such no human development can flourish in time of conflict and war, the rule of law and human rights must be accepted at all times.’’
