ECG to intensify emergency load shedding

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has said it is likely to intensify the emergency power rationing from today, Monday January 28.

This follows a fire outbreak at Achimota sub-station over the weekend.

Although power supply has been restored to affected areas, the power distributor says the huge demand for electricity could lead to more power cuts.

Tetteh Okine, the Director of Operations at ECG in an interview with XYZ News said it would take some time before power is transferred into the new transformer.

“The GRIDCO transformer is burnt and they have a spare transformer which can be brought in but a lot of work needs to be done before they can actually put power into it so it would take some time”.

Meanwhile, Albert Okine, the Head of Public Affairs of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) says the Achimota sub-station will be back to its full output in five weeks time.
