Tarkwa Police remands drug dealing farmer

Iddrisu Babao, a 27-year-old farmer, is in the hands of the Tarkwa police for claiming ownership of seventy five slaps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect who hails from Wenchi in the Western region is said to have taken this step after the security personnel took custody of the suspected narcotic drugs from the hide out at Brahabebom near Tarkwa.

Chief Superintendent Ernest Kuukure Mayeeb, the Municipal Police Commander for Tarkwa Nsueam told the Ghana News Agency that the police had information on Thursday around 1:30 am that some unknown person had conveyed four boxes suspected to contain narcotics drugs to a house at Brahabebom.

He said when the police officers got there later they found four sealed boxes in the said house but the owner of that house was unknown.

Superintendent Mayeeb said when the boxes were transported to the police station and a search was conducted through it, they detected seventy five slaps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

He said after the police had carried on this exercise, the suspect reported to the police station to claim ownership of the banned substance saying he brought them to sell to small scale miners operating within the area.

He said the suspect was arrested and remanded into police custody would be arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court on Friday January 18.
