Man jailed 22 years for defilement

The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced a farmer to 22 years imprisonment in hard labour, for defiling a 10-year-old girl at Apragya, near Obogu in the Asante-Akim South District.

The 35-year-old convict, Kwabla Agbesi pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police Inspector Manasseh Obimpeh told the court presided over by Justice Alex Obeng Asante that the victim lives with his grandfather at Apragya, where the convict also lived.

The prosecution said last Christmas Day, at about 1730 hours, the grandfather interrogated the girl when she saw sperm coming out of her private part.

The victim told the grandfather that Agbesi lured her to a nearby school and sexually abused her.

According to Insp. Obimpeh, the convict warned the girl that he would kill her if she tells anybody about it.

The prosecution said when Agbesi was arrested; he admitted the crime in his caution statement.
