Ignore critics of the NPP’s free SHS-Akufo-Addo

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, has said his free Senior High School (SHS) concept is implementable and advised Ghanaians to ignore its critics.

“It takes a visionary leader to see light where others find darkness and I assure you my government will implement it come 2013”, he said.

Nana Akufo-Addo was addressing a heavily attended NPP Volta Regional campaign rally on Tuesday at Dzodze.

He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had in the past dismissed as unfeasible, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which the NPP did implement to address inequalities in society.

Nana Akufo-Addo said with prudent management, elimination of wasteful expenditure and corruption such as the huge doubtful judgment debt payment, the country could foot the bill of the free SHS concept from kindergarten to the second cycle level and also enhance teacher conditions.

He said the country could not wait for 20 years to implement the policy as the critics are suggesting.

Nana Akufo-Addo introduced the party’s parliamentary candidates in the region to the cheering crowd, urging the people to rally behind the NPP to truly uplift the region instead of the mere rhetoric from the “ungrateful NDC”.

He said advancing industrialization, job creation and the strengthening of the weak cedi to enable businessmen and farmers make good returns would be the priority of his regime.

Nana Akufo-Addo said Dzodze as a major ECOWAS transit hub would benefit from industries that his government would attract to the area.

Mr. Kofi Dzamesi, former Volta Regional Minister, said he personally endorsed the protocols with the Togolese authorities in Lome for the construction of the Dzodze-Akanu highway just before exiting power but the current regime had assigned the glory to itself.

He said contrary to the self-glorification posture of the NDC, it had nothing to show in the Ketu-North District and the region at large compared to the NPP.

Other speakers included Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State in the NPP regime and Mr. Kenwuud Nuworsu, the Party’s regional chairman.
