Police under go training on public order management

One hundred and thirty police personnel and two officers have undergone training in public order management, in Bolgatanga at the weekend, to prepare them physically, mentally and psychologically for Election 2012.

The training of trainers programme was jointly organised by French and UK public order management experts and their Ghanaian counterparts, to sharpen skills of the personnel in crowd management to enable them to ensure peace during the polls in December.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCOP) Bright Oduro, Upper East Regional Commander, said skills acquired by the police help them to identify early warnings and find quick solutions to such situations.

He said the training would help the police to handle mob action, ensure order at political rallies and special events, prevent unlawful obstruction and protect electoral officials and materials.

DCOP Oduro said the personnel were taken through operational field deployment and tactical intervention and crowd control measures.

He assured Ghanaians that the police would ensure utmost security before, during and after the polls.
