Vice-President Amissah-Arthur pays courtesy call on Asantehene

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, on Friday asked political leaders to give convincing messages to the electorate to enable them to make informed choices at the December general polls.

He said elections were not about conflicts but a process to enhance the nation’s democratic governance.

Politicians, he said, must couch their messages in a convincing way to make the electorateS give them their mandate at the polls.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu gave the advice when Vice-President Papa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur made a debut entry to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to introduce himself to the King since assuming the second highest political office in the country.

The Vice-President, the immediate-past Governor of Ghana’s Central Bank, is also the running mate of President John Dramani Mahama, flag-bearer of the ruling National Democratic Congress.

The Asantehene congratulated the Vice-President on his assumption to the office and wished him well.

He observed that the responsibility of the position was onerous which demanded that the holder used his skills and competencies to assist the president to maintain the nation’s esteemed democratic culture.

He encouraged the Vice-President to maintain his humility as he partners the President to bring development projects and social infrastructure in the areas of education, water provision, roads and employment for the youth.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu assured President Mahama and the Vice-President of his prayers.

“My greetings to President Mahama; we will pray for him and wish him well. God be with you,” the Asantehene said.

Vice-President Amissah-Arthur made a donation of whisky and schnapps, as well as an undisclosed amount of money to the Palace.
