Court jails fisherman five years for stealing

Takoradi Circuit Court “B” on Thursday sentenced George Dotse Kojovi, a 23-year fisherman resident at Kojokrom near Takoradi, to five years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing.

The accused pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Theophilius Kwame Agbemordzi, said on September 28th this year, one Efo Mawugbe, who is a witness in the case, accompanied the accused person to seek for employment at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital at Sekondi.

He said on reaching the hospital, Mawugbe, who is a worker there, asked the accused person to sweep around the Hospital’s canteen.

Chief Inspector Agbemordzi said while sweeping, the accused saw a bag belonging to Georgina Korsah, a worker at the canteen.

He said the accused stole the bag which contained a Sony Ericisson Bluebooth Mobile Phone valued at GH¢300 and cash of GH¢28.00.

Chief Inspector Agbemordzi said some workers at the hospital spotted the accused running away with his booty and raised an alarm.

He said the accused person was arrested and sent to the Police Station where he was detained for interrogation.
