Orphans Rob UK Volunteer

THE TESHIE police have arrested two adopted orphans for stealing GH¢10,000 belonging to a volunteer from the UK.

The suspects (names withheld) aged between 10 and 16, took the money which was concealed in a polythene bag and hid it in a bush with the intention of going for it later.

They were arrested last Friday at their Teshie Demo residence after the philanthropist reported the matter to police.

Confirming the report to DAILY GUIDE, DSP Freeman Tetteh, Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer said the victim was a foreign volunteer from the UK who adopted the two orphans a year ago.

On Thursday September 27, the victim left the house leaving the two children there.

The volunteer returned later to the house only to realize that someone had broken into his room and taken away the GH¢10,000 which he had hidden in a polythene bag.

He then lodged a complaint with the Teshie District Police for investigations to be conducted into the matter.

At the police station, the 16 year-old confessed that he saw the 10 year old boy taking the money from the victim’s room. The 10 year old in turn confessed that he hid the money in between some concrete blocks inside a bush.

Two pupils from Christian Mission School, who also spotted the orphans hiding the money went to take it and after handing over GH¢1,800 to their parents, they presented the rest to a fire service officer for safekeeping.

Police however proceeded to arrest the fire service officer for keeping a stolen item.

The fire service officer, Leonard Fletcher also took part of the money and gave the rest to one Grace Akrong.

Police managed to recover an amount of GH¢2,600 from Madam Grace.

The orphans, according to DSP would be released since they were minors.
