Two persons were killed with 88 houses, including a mosque, burnt in a clash between two Muslim sects at Kpanbuso in northern Ghana last week, police said on Monday.
In addition, 44 people including a Muslim chief have been arrested in connection with the religious feud between Al Suna and Tijanniya Muslim sects, Ghana News Agency reported.
Trouble started when the Tijanniya attacked and killed an Al Suna Muslim, who had visited a mosque the Al Sunas were constructing at Kpanbuso, said a police official.
Later, the Tijanniya members from Mpaha moved to Kpanbuso to assist their colleagues to attack the Al Sunas and in the fight another person was killed.
A contingent of armed soldiers and police had been sent to the conflict zone to maintain law and order, the official added.
During the search operations, arms and ammunitions were found in the Mpaha chief’s place.
