Mr. William Ntow Boahene, Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, on Monday won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries for Aburi in the Akuapem South District.
Mr. Boahene bagged 220 votes as against 46 by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr. Godfred Osei Bonsu Twum.
The third contestant, Mr. Bediako Anim had zero.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency after the elections, Mr. Boahene said he would join hands with the vanquished and party members, to start house-to-house campaign to win presidential and parliamentary votes in the upcoming December 2012 elections.
He said he would continue to build on the good socio-economic foundation laid by late President John Evans Atta Mills so that more job opportunities were created for the youth in the area.
Mr. Boahene commended and expressed appreciation to the people for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves in the elections and asked them to do the same come December to defeat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) hands-down.
Mr. Peter Kwaku Kwakye, Electoral Commission Officer for the area, who supervised the voting, congratulated the party members for participating in the exercise peacefully.
Mr. Anthony Gyampo, Regional Secretary of the party, asked members to stop backbiting and unite to fight to retain the government in power.
In another development, Mr. Ben Ohene Ayeh of the Ministry of Tourism, beat Mr. Edward Nyarko, a businessman by 189 to 184 votes, to win the Nsawam-Agoagyiri parliamentary seat in the Akuapem South Municipality.
Mr. Seth Nartey Engman, Akuapem South Municipal NDC Chairman, in a short address, commended the party executives for undertaking the voting exercise peacefully and expressed the hope that they would do same in December.
