The Convention People’s Party (CPP) on Thursday said it shared in the sentiment expressed by President John Dramani Mahama during his broadcast to the nation last night that there was the need for Ghanaians to continue to stand united.
A statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Nii Armah Akomfrah, copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, stressed that it agreed with the President’s call that Ghanaians needed to continue to be united as they demonstrated during the funeral of President John Evans Atta Mills. It said: “We also agree that Ghana has made some strides but the suffering of the vast majority of our people continues unabated.
“The CPP believes in the unity of Ghana, reason for which we fought for a unitary state and promoted a well-crafted educational system which sought to eliminate inequality and foster a true national identity.”
The statement said the CPP had always believed in the politics of tolerance, fairness, compassion, humility, decency as evidenced in its history and reiterated in its New Year message which called for a campaign devoid of insults, character assassination or violence.
It said: “Ghana’s unity will become meaningful if used to transform the fortunes of the majority of our people in the delivery of services, jobs, housing, better education, meeting the health needs of our people, social protection and moving our economy from a peasant agricultural one into an industrialized one”.
