France Donates to Defence Minsitry

The French Embassy yesterday handed over three ambulances with a total value of ?800 million to Dr. Addo Kufuor, Minister of Defence.

These three fully equipped vehicles will be assigned to the emergency ward of the 37th Military hospital as the first step of France’s support to the emergency ward of the Military Hospital. A training programme for health personnel is also proposed for the hospital.

The reorganization of the emergency ward is one of the projects of France-Ghana military co-operation.

The French Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Berrit said the Accra Stadium tragedy raised the need for the creation of a modern ambulance service and emergency unit to rescue people afflicted by a disaster in a quick and efficient way and France initiated co-operation with the Ministry of Defence to help in this respect.

“The creation of a fleet of ambulances is already a great progress but is not sufficient. Specialised and trained staff is necessary to give first care on board ambulances. A well organized emergency ward at the hospital is also needed to look after the patients.”

He said the next step of the medical co-operation is training courses for medical doctors and nurses in charge of the ambulance service.

Dr. Addo Kufuor thanked the French Ambassador for the donation.
