Members of Council of State receive Ghana Cards from NIA

Professor Kofi Nyidevu Awoonor, Chairman of the Council of State, has said the National Identification Card “Ghana Card” defines not only nationality but citizenry as well.

He noted that it was a major step towards Ghana’s development and not a privilege for Ghanaians to acquire it but a right.

Prof Awoonor made the observation when officials from National Identification Authority (NIA) presented Ghana Cards to Members of the Council of State in Accra.

He said collation of data of Ghanaians was to ensure proper enforcement of law and order and protect social rights of the citizenry.

Dr William Ahadzie, Executive Secretary of NIA, said the Authority was determined to register and issue Ghana Cards to all Ghanaians and announced that government was sourcing funds to complete the registration exercise in the other parts of the country. **
