Suspected thieves granted GH¢ 5,000 bail

Two electricians have been granted a GH¢5,000 bail by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for stealing 45 meters of 120 millimeter underground cable from the Mile one estate, a suburb of Tarkwa.

The accused persons Abraham Baiden and Isaac Qaicoe pleaded not guilty to the charges and will re-appear before the court on May 8.

Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah, told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that the complainant Solomon Yankson, is a security officer of Kruger Brent, while the first and second accused are workers with Gella Ellectrolex Service Limited, a subsidiary company of Anglo gold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Tarkwa.

She said on April 14 at about 0600 hours, the complainant detected a theft of 45 meters of 120 millimeters amour underground cable from the Mile one estate where he was on duty.

She said a suspect George Donkor, the senior engineer in the company was arrested to assist the police investigation and in the process the police received information that, there were similar electric cables in the shop of Mohammed Musah a scrap dealer at Tarkwa Nabooso.

She said the police did not meet Musah when they went to his shop and identified the cables as the stolen items from the company.

The prosecutor said the exhibits were retrieved and conveyed to the station which led to the arrest of the accused persons who had sold the exhibits to Mohammed Musah.

Inspector Tawiah said the accused denied any knowledge of the theft and claimed they sold pieces of left over electric cables to the scrap dealer.**
