UDS needs to stay in competition – VC

Professor Haruna Yakubu, Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University for Development Studies (UDS), has stated that the University needs to reposition itself to enable it stay in competition.

The repositioning, according to the VC would also make the University more attractive to both local and international students.

Prof Yakubu, was speaking when he led a delegation from the University to pay a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana.

He said, repositioning the academic entity could not be achieved without government support, and appealed to the Regional Minister to have the University in mind by pushing for the accomplishment of all promises made by the Executive to the facility.

The VC noted that UDS is a very young University that still have numerous challenges, stressing that, if the situation persists, the school would lose its competitiveness and relevance.

Prof Yakubu congratulated the Regional Minister who is the immediate past Ambassador to Egypt and a former Lecturer of the UDS for his appointment to the highest political office in the region.

Alhaji Sulemana expressed his appreciation for the visit and noted that most lecturers at UDS were development experts which government could tap into, to help develop the country.

He said, while serving as Ghana’s envoy in Egypt, the development of the University had always stayed on his mind and as such, he was able to connect the University to Assuit University in Upper Egypt which led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the tertiary institutions.

Alhaji Sulemana pledged Government’s commitment to expand the University’s infrastructure including the tarring of roads within the Wa campus of the facility.**
