FOURTEEN OUT of 24 defaulters in the payment of electricity bill to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are to be dragged to court this week.
This was disclosed to the Chronicle by the Twifo Praso District Administration Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Central Region, Mr. J.A. Afful, here at the weekend.
According to Afful, the defaulters owe the company an amount of over ?5.4billion since last year, as all efforts to retrieve the outstanding debt have proved futile.
He pointed out that 10 out of the defaulters settled their outstanding bills, in addition to re-connection fee, as a way of escaping the impending court action.
According to Afful, the names of the defaulters who have been processed for court are Susanna Brew, Adza Perfect, Alamatu John, Boye and Kwabena Afokwa.
The rest are Comfort Quansah, Kofi Owusu, Kofi Baah, K. Biney and assembly member, Bashir Dala, Abu Kweku, Moses Amoah and Ayishetu.
The administrative officer further told the Chronicle that there are more defaulter in the area who are yet to be processed to face court action if they fail to comply with the directives of the company to pay their respective outstanding bills.
Also speaking to the Chronicle, the district manager, Mr. Adamu Osumanu, advised customers to refrain from reconnecting of their metres themselves after they had been disconnected.
He also urged the public to avoid engaging the services of quack electricians to undertake illegal connection of power to their homes.
Mr. Osumanu cautioned the district assemblies and opinion leaders that as the dry season approches, they should guard against indiscriminate bush burning, which sometimes affect the wooden poles carrying the overhead wires.
He expressed regret that between January and March, this year, 10 high tension wooden poles valued at ?20million had been destroyed through bush burning.
He, however, appealed to the various communities to assist ECG to provide quality service to the public at all times.
