Cape Coast, Jan 17, GNA – The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Anthony Egyir Aikins, on Tuesday said the Government’s Better Ghana Agenda was yielding positive results in the Central Region, following the number of development projects being executed in the area.
Mr Aikins said this when he interacted with journalists, heads of departments, assembly members, coordinating directors and members of the public , at a press conference in Cape Coast.
He briefed them on projects undertaken by Government through the assembly between 2009 and 2011 in the Cape Coast Metropolis.
Mr. Aikins said the assembly distributed 3,200 mono desks to some Senior High Schools (SHSs) and 300 dual desks to basic schools, completed work on classroom blocks for SHSs and basic schools, dormitories, libraries and teachers’ bungalows while other projects were ongoing.
On health, the MCE said one clinic each at Akotokyer and Nyamebekyere have been completed while a maternity block was under construction at the Efutu clinic.
Mr Aikins said more that 50 insinuators have been provided for some communities to improve sanitary condition in the metropolis.
He said market sheds had been completed while a slaughter house at Mpeaseam was under construction.
Mr. Aikins said 50 city guards, 12 revenue collectors and more than 1,000 people have been employed under the National Youth Employment Programme.
He said effective security measures had been put in place to ensure the safety of residents of Cape Coast.
During question time, some journalists expressed concern about the fact that less than 1,500 people had been employed in the metropolis in the past three years, and suggested that more youth should be employed.
Some of the journalists pleaded with the MCE to check the proliferation of Day Care Centers and non-governmental organisations in the metropolis because some of them were operating without licenses from the Department of Social Welfare.
