Minor rainy season in southern Ghana “less promising”

Accra, Aug. 26, GNA – The minor rainy season in southern Ghana, whic= h occurs between September and mid November, is expected to be 93less promis= ing than the major rainy season”, which was from April to July, the Ghana Meteorological Agency said on Friday.

A statement from the Agency said the forecast for the minor rainy season indicated 93a normal to below normal rainfall amount”. The season would be characterised by cloudy skies and low temperatures= .. The onset of rains in the transition/forest belt would be between August 28 and September 8 with expected rainfall of between 450 and 600 millimetres.

The forest/western coastal belt will see the commencement of rains fro= m September 6 to September 12 with rainfall between 250 and 450 millimetres. The northern belt, which has one major season, would reach its maximum during August/September. “As had been predicted already, this area would have more than 75 pe= r cent chance of normal to above rainfall amount this year,” it said, addin= g the rainfall amounts would be between 650 and 1,100 millimetres.
