Stay away from Politics- Youth told

Bolgatanga, July 12, GNA – Mr Dauda Abangos, Upper East Regional Youth Coordinator of the National Youth Council (NYC), at the weekend, advised the youth to stay away from chieftaincy disputes and meddling in politics.

Mr Abangos made the call at the inauguration of the Upper East Region Youth Association, (UEYA), in Bolgatanga on Monday.

He urged them to resist attempts by the executives of the Association to lead them astray from their objectives, which could mar the association’s good intentions.

“You should let accountability and transparency be your guide in your dealings,” he added.

He advised them to partner the District Assemblies in mobilizing revenue, to help in the development of their communities.

Mr Abangos urged them to join hands with the NYC to educate the public on the National Youth Policy, to help guide the youth of the country.

Dr Clement Apak, a Lecturer at the University of Ghana and a youth activist, called on the youth to take advantage of the digital revolution to better their lot.

He said the three Northern regions 93was at a disadvantage in accessing courses and programs in higher institutions and called for a strong advocacy to back their demands.

Mr Jonathan Adabre, the newly elected president for UEYA, pledged the support of the association to reduce poverty and deprivation in the region.

He said it was not the agenda of the association to go into politics, but would not hesitate to expose corruption in the society.

The association’s objectives include, influencing policies and programmes, towards the development of the region, mobilize and build capacity of young people, education on drug abuse, identify and support effective innovative leadership in the region and foster unity among the youth.
