Asikuma (C/R), May 6, GNA – Teenagers have been advised to avoid immoral acts to prevent them from unwanted pregnancies but they should concentrate on their studies to enable them to pass their examinations. Mr Richard Dela Dankey, Deputy Coordinating Director of Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, gave the advice at a two-day workshop for pupils from 40 private schools who are peer educators on HIV/AIDS in the area.
The workshop, which was organized by the District Assembly in conjunction with Humanitarian Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO), and sponsored by the Ghana AIDS Commission, was part of efforts to reduce the spread of the pandemic in the country. Mr Dankey also advised the participants to avoid premarital sex and other social vices that would ruin their lives. He appealed to the pupils to resist narcotic drugs, alcohol and pornography.
The participants were drawn from 20 basic schools and were taken through basic facts about HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), the role of a peer educator and how to document and give feedback on their work. 06 May 11
